Call for Book Chapters: “Teaching Classics through Mythology"
Vernon Press invites book chapter proposals for a forthcoming edited volume, “Teaching Classics through Mythology” (editor, Alberto Regagliolo).
We’re putting together a new edited volume that explores how mythology can be used to teach the Classical world at all levels of education, from primary school to university classrooms. We're looking for contributions from educators, scholars, and practitioners who are using Greco-Roman myths to spark interest in Classical Studies and connect with students in diverse and creative ways.
What we’re looking for
We welcome chapter proposals on a wide range of approaches to teaching mythology. Possible themes include (but aren’t limited to):
- Curricular integration: using myths to teach Classical languages, literature, history, philosophy, or art.
- Creative pedagogy: interdisciplinary methods, digital tools, role-play, games, or hands-on activities.
- Myth and identity: approaches that incorporate inclusive, multicultural, or decolonial frameworks.
- Contemporary connections: using modern retellings, popular culture, or media adaptations to make myth relevant.
- Student engagement: practical insights into what captivates learners in the classroom.
- Pedagogical challenges: addressing institutional constraints, cultural sensitivities, or shifting curricular priorities.
- Global contexts: exploring Greek and Roman mythology alongside other world myth traditions.
We’re open to both practice-based reflections and more theoretical or research-driven pieces. International perspectives are especially encouraged.
This book is aimed at anyone interested in Classical reception and education, teachers, researchers, curriculum designers, or anyone working at the intersection of myth and learning.

Abstract deadline: 16 February 2026
Length: 150–200 words
Acceptance notifications: 2 March 2026
Full chapters due: 30 July 2026
Chapter length: 4,000–7,000 words
